The Story
Western Nevada Development District (WNDD) was designated by the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) as an Economic Development District in 1984. There are approximately 400 Development Districts throughout the United States. WNDD is one of two EDA designated Economic Development Districts in the State of Nevada.

The Western Nevada Development District represents eight counties: Churchill, Douglas, Humboldt, Lyon, Mineral, Pershing, Storey, and Washoe; the municipality of Carson City; the cities of Fallon, Fernley, Lovelock, Reno, Sparks, Winnemucca, Yerington; the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe; and Associate Members located within the region.

WNDD’s mission is to create an environment within which business and industry can be recruited, promoting a vibrant, diverse and sustainable economy. As a federally designated Economic Development District, one of WNDD’s main missions is to update the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) annually and rewrite the plan every 5 years. The CEDS is a regionally-driven economic development plan that encompasses the entire District. It engages the region’s eight counties; one municipality; seven cities; one tribe, and other public and private sector stakeholders in planning for the future of the District.
The WNDD Board of Directors is comprised of elected and appointed officials as well as agency staff and business representatives from throughout the region.
